Crossing America In My FJ Cruiser, One Trail At A Time!
So, I finished up with my very long ordeal in Afghanistan and even had a nice break in South Africa. Now for the next adventure...
Sipping on tequila in South Africa with my friends, I was trying to plot world domination and got sidetracked with deciding on where to live once I arrived state-side again, after 4 years. I took a map and another shot and got to work with a sharpie, crossing out all the places that I knew were not meant for me. I ended up with about 13 states that I thought I could enjoy living in and Colorado just jumped out at me. It has everything that appeals to me...mountains, rivers, and a different kind of lifestyle. I was ready for a change. (I was also inspired by the exploits of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, who did the shows "Long Way Down" and "Long Way Around" on bikes.)
Well, my beat up 1990 Cutlas Sierra was not cut out for living in the mountains and I figured I would need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get me around. An unspoken and unrealized dream began to bud in my skull... my dream job has always been to be a rally driver. I have always been drawn for the off road driving, but never really got around to wheeling. Perfect timing, I decided! Well, to lessen the burden of reading the entire thought process...
I decided that I wanted something that I could take off road, but still craved the modern amenities of a new vehicle and ended up with the mental image of the Toyota FJ Cruiser.
